The history and mission

The impact of industrial revolution on labor and social problems is significant, and the influential legislation of labor and social law is proceeding fast; however, there is a crucial lack of the research and teaching of the labor and social law, thus we established the center for labor and social law. This center aims at: the study of labor and social law, the teaching of labor and social law, the collecting of the materials of labor and social law and the publishing of the academic works of the center.

 

Members, location and facilities

This center has moved to Room 271511 of the 15F at General Building, and it is equipped with a great collection of textbooks, periodicals and journals on Labor and Social Law from China, Britain, Germany and Japan. The center is constituted of the full-time professors whose expertise is labor law or social law and the graduate students; the dean is chosen from one of the full-time professors and the term is one year. There are 18 students belonging to the center. There are at least 4 students admitted to the labor and social law program each year. The admission of the Ph. D program is based on the applicants’ grades of the entrance exam. The entrance exam of the gradate school program includes Constitution, Labor Law and Social Law, while the entrance exam of the Ph. D program includes Labor and Social law.

(1) Faculty

Dean: Prof. Min-jan Kuao
J.D., Munich University, Germany

Professor Kuao taught at National Chung Chang University from 1990 to 1991. He joined the National Chengchi University faculty in 1991. In addition to several articles published in the NCCU Law Review, Prof. Kuao has also published and edited many monographs including the Social Security System and Social Law, Pension System and the Related Regulations, Reform and Perspectives on Social Insurance: Lessons from the East and West. Member: Prof. Chan-Guan Hwang

J.D., Gottingen University, Germany

Professor Hwang joined the National Chengchi University faculty in 1988. Apart from several articles published in the NCCU Law Review, Prof. Hwang has also published publications including Labor Law, Labor Law: Case Studies. (2) Academic Events

The center has held several labor and social law seminars since 1997, some of which were regarding labor rights and social security and were international seminars featured with foreign scholars and intended to exchange experience of different countries. In 2006, we held a seminar participated by scholars and professionals from aros-straits for the first time. We wish to have further cooperation in the study of labor law and social law with China in order to advance academic development.

In 2006, we have coordinated with the department of sociology to start a program which is an integration of law and social policy, and the purpose of the program is to train public policy professionals mastering labor and social policy as well as law. Also this program is created to help college students wishing to go to graduate school prepared for related courses they’re going to take in the future and help current graduate students to get a comprehensive understanding at issues concerning these related fields.
