The Law School nominates an exchange students to share his experience and talk about the exchange experience in Hokkaido University

The Law School's "Experience Sharing Session for Nominated Foreign Exchange Students" was held online on October 20th. At the beginning, Prof. Yu-Zu Tai and Prof. Chung-Lun Shen delivered speeches and shared, and Ms. Yvonne Chen introduced the law school's exchange program. Prof. Huang Shixuan shared his experiences and impressions on his past study abroad experience at The University of Tokyo in Japan. Mr. Chen Haoren, the fourth student of undergraduate, also shared his exchange  experience of the exchange at Hokkaido University this year. 35 teachers and students gathered in the online conference room for in-depth exchanges, and the atmosphere was invigorating.

In her speech, Prof. Yu-Zu Dai exclaimed that "going abroad to study is a great opportunity" and encouraged students to go abroad to have a look during their college days. Prof. Chung-Lun Shen also emphasized that the school's resources for studying abroad are like "green channels", which can obtain advantages and care that are not available in ordinary channels, and are worthy of good use by students. Assistant Ms. Yvonne Chen introduced the exchange program of the Law School, especially emphasized and suggested that students who are interested in applying for exchange should prepare a language test in advance. Also, transcript with a "two-year validity period" is a must. The detailed exchange information will be continuously announced on the Law School website for students' reference.

After graduating from the master's program of the Department of Law at National Taiwan University, Prof. Huang Shixuan received a scholarship from the Japan Exchange Association and went to the University of Tokyo to study for six years. He recalled, "I decided to study in Japan when I considered that Japan and Taiwan were both the recipient countries of the law. I could learn how to learn foreign law through Japan and introduce it into my own country's technology." In addition, Prof. Huang Shixuan mentioned that " Many people misunderstand that Japan does not recognize Taiwan’s master’s or doctoral degree.” In fact, whether a master’s program is required in Japan is judged by the instructor, and which program to start from will be one of the plans for training students. In addition, during my stay in Japan, due to the advice of my advisor, I also learned German to strengthen my ability to read literature. Prof. Huang Shixuan continued his speaking with a smile that during the writing of his master's thesis, he was always in the cycle of "submitting a manuscript" and "rewriting it after being instructed by the teacher". It was not until the sixth edition that the final draft was proposed, but he also gained experience in writing large-scale thesis in Japanese. Prof. Huang mentioned that during the last period of writing his doctoral dissertation, he lived a life of only one to two hours of sleep a day, so he suggested that students who want to study abroad should not only work hard, but also "return to China in a healthy way."

4th undergraduate Student, Mr. Chen Haoren, originally planned to go to Hokkaido University for an exchange year, but he lamented that "due to the epidemic, classes were only conducted online in the first semester, but luckily, from March to September this year, he successfully physically exchanged at Hokkaido University for half a year." Chen Haoren emphasized, the advantage of college-level exchange is that there is no need for an interview. If you plan to go abroad for exchange in your senior year, you only need to prepare application materials during the winter vacation of your junior year, and apply to the college office immediately after the beginning of the semester. He also recommends the National Chengchi University's "Office of International Office" website, where there are many experience sharing of past exchange students for reference. Hokkaido University is a research-oriented comprehensive university with both arts and sciences and beautiful scenery. Chen Haoren laughed and said, "Hokkaido University has both urban and rural landscapes. If students prefer an urban atmosphere, they may recommend Osaka University or Nagoya University." Academically, Chen Haoren said The students especially mentioned the civil law study course of "Exercise II", which implements small-sized class teaching, must read at least 100 pages of literature every week, and focuses on training the ability to research and write legal reports. At the same time of heavy academic pressure, Chen Haoren also participated in the outdoor activity-based "Wild Ke" club, going to a tour of cherry blossoms with friends during the Golden Week holiday, and also participated in the "Okinawa Izakaya" activity in the student dormitory "Huidi Liao", drinking beer and chatting. Participated in the "School Festival" of Hokkaido University to experience the unique style of Japanese universities, and even taught Chinese for three months in a cram school. However, Chen Haoren also emphasized that even if you go abroad, it is just as important to connect with Taiwanese classmates in foreign countries. Traveling with them, watching baseball game, enjoying outside activities and skiing by rental car, etc., not only escapes the circle of friends in the university, but also gets to know different schools, classmates of different regions and ages, and they are still friends from time to time. Chen Haoren also admitted that although Gap Year may interrupt the preparation for the National Bar Entrance Examination, it is more likely to graduate half a year to a year later than others, but the life as an exchange student is a kind of nourishment for thinking about the direction of life, keep a broad heart, and exchange various feelings of life through exchange, to help yourself explore different possibilities.
